There are times when difficulties and sadness appear in our lives that make us feel a low mood.
Feeling depleted and low mood for an extended period of time can develop into depression. Apart from feeling awful and overwhelmed, some of the symptoms of depression include feeling hopeless, low self-worth, losing interest in friends and enjoyable activities, not sleeping well and not being able to concentrate.
If you are experiencing symptoms of depression, that’s affecting your work, relationships and general well-being, the best thing to do is speak with your doctor.
Practising mindfulness can help you recover from a low mood in a number of ways. Noticing, and not automatically identifying with, negative thoughts, working with your emotions and practising self-compassion and gratitude can make a difference.
